1960s Adidas Tokyo trainers back in white leather (image credit: Size? website)
There are suede versions about, but these 1960s Adidas Tokyo trainers in white leather really catch the eye.
It always does. Especially in the non-summer months. Yes, it rains in the summer too, but suede generally works better in the warmer months. And if I’m honest, I just love Adidas in a leather finish like this. The leather Adidas London reissue and the Adidas Japan both operate in similar territory, and both look amazing.
This latest ‘60s reissue from the Adidas archives is related to the Japan reissue, too. Like the Japan, it was launched at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, although the Japan was firmly a leisure shoe, while the Adidas Tokyo was a track and field shoe for the same Olympic Games.
The spikes it originally came with are no more, which is good news if you want to wear a pair of these for going out and about in the town or city. That’s pretty much the only significant change in 60+ years.
This is still what Adidas describes as a ‘low profile’ shoe in off-white leather with contrasting collegiate green details.
The details are the stripes, the trim and the trademark cross at the back. There’s also some suede around the toe and the lace box, plus a slim gum sole and gold branding, finishing things off.
Another archive winner from Adidas and here once more in limited numbers. Most sizes are available right now at a price of £85.
