I like the look of these, not least because of the colour options for the 1960s canvas mountaineering smock by Wolf Vintage Clothing.

And also, because these kinds of smocks are always popular. And not readily available in different colours.

One of the most popular items I have featured on the site was the Heroes of Telemark smock by Lancashire Pike, which was based on the smocks worn in the classic 1965 war movie The Heroes of Telemark. Sadly, Lancashire Pike no longer makes clothes, but I still get emails about this item. This isn’t an exact copy, but it’s a similar design.

The key differences here (colours aside) are the construction and price. The Lancashire Pike smock was ventile and made to order, which meant it was the best part of £400. This one is made of cotton canvas and is made in bigger numbers. As a result, it’s available for a fraction of the price. And the canvas isn’t a bad option as we get into spring and the temperatures (theoretically) warm up a bit. It’s still a rigged item, regardless.

As for the design, it is based on the classic vintage British RAF Mountaineering Search and Rescue smock. The smocks have been pre-washed to give a ‘soft and supple worn-in vintage feel’ to the fabric.

Like the original design, it features a large pocket in the centre of the chest that seals with two poppers on either side (instead of the traditional Velcro). It also features two lower patch pockets that fasten with buttons.

As I said, plenty of colours are available, most of which are pictured here. And that is a big selling point as these are usually just off-white and navy. I like the more interesting shades you can pick up.

The price is as much of a selling point as the jacket, too. This is an absolute steal at just £69.95, with a huge range of sizes available. If you like the look, it really is a no-brainer.
