There have been some plainer reissues recently, but the 1974 Adidas Kick trainers in white, red, and blue are the ones to own. And they are now in the sale.

You can see the white version here, and there has been a ‘flip’ version of white on black, too, if you want those. But there’s something special about this particular colourway when Adidas gets it out of the archive.

In fact, one of my favourite reissues of late was the Adidas Cadet OG, which was originally launched around the same time as the Kick.

But the Kick was year-specific because it launched for a reason. This was the official shoe of the 1974 World Cup in West Germany. And although not a football shoe (it was more of an all-rounder), it was the ideal show for a kid’s kickabout with a ball. It probably works for an adult kickabout, too.

But more likely, it’s just an all-rounder for wearing at any time. The design is very much of the day, with a leather upper in white, contrasting detail in red and blue, a protective toe, some suede to the front and a herringbone gum sole. That’s pretty much it. Proper old-school Adidas.

They are still £85 at the Size? website, but you can get them in most sizes for £59.50 at ASOS.
