A sportswear classic for two wheels? That pretty much sums up the Adidas Velosamba cycling shoes.
They launched some time back but seemed to be a limited edition design. Either way, they disappeared not long after that launch and didn’t seem to reappear. Until now, that is. The Adidas Velosamba is back in all sizes and a variety of colours. But the design is much the same. It’s a Samba, of course.
So why would you want these for a premium price compared to your standard Samba? Well, that depends on whether you ride a bike a lot and you see the value in the extra cycling-related details.
The shoe itself has the Samba look and feel. You can get off your bike, wear these and everyone will presume they are a Samba. As long as they don’t look at the extended name on the side. The details are more subtle than that.
The shoes have a ‘cycling-specific hybrid outsole’ for a start. What’s that? It’s described as a ‘full-length reinforced plate’ for ‘efficient pedalling’ and a ‘secure heel fit’ with two-bolt cleat compatibility and an ‘easy walking feel’. There’s also reflective three stripes on the upper and a blinker on the heel that shines in low light. Finally, a coated leather upper helps out in cold, damp weather. With that in mind, they might be useful for riding a scooter too.
So if you want to do some cycling but want to keep that old school look for your feet, they might be worth a look. Various colours to choose from too, from the classic shades you would expect of a Samba to something a little bolder if that grabs you.
Most sizes available right now, but if last time is anything to go by, they will sell out and disappear again. Whatever you go for, you are looking at £100.
