I would have had these down as some sort of cycling gear, but the official name is Fred Perry half-zip sweatshirts.
Whatever they are, the tops are ideal for the time of year and if you are a fan of the Fred Perry look and brand, likely to appeal to the eye too.
Why? Well, this is classic Fred Perry. The polo shirt is the calling of the brand regardless of all the designs and collaborations it produces. And anything with the look of the polo shirt is very much a classic look by association.
The sweatshirts here keep it nice and simple, borrowing the tipping from the polo shirt, as well as the logo. Outside of that, it’s pretty much about the functionality. A more substantial top for the colder months.
Of course, there is the added appeal of the zip collar, which is where the cycling aspect comes in. Cycling tops that pass for casual wear are always popular (designs like the Magliamo knits for example) and these tops are very much in that area.
But unlike Magliamo, these aren’t made of merino wool. The half-zip sweatshirt is produced in loopback cotton, so not quite the same warmth. Although it is still a substantial layer.
If you want one, the sweats are available in two variations of black right now, selling for £90 each in all sizes.
