There was a reissue a few years ago, but the 1970s Adidas Berlin City Series trainers reissue here has a subtle difference.
The last reissue was in 2018 and was notable because it was based on the original sample version, so this shoe had the gold branding printed upside down. Not so this time – the gold branding is as it was when the shoe first appeared back in 1979.
Yes, this is another archive City Series release, with styles seemingly reappearing every month. Not that I’m complaining when it looks as good as this one.
The Berlin is prime City Series. Minimalist looks and maximum style. And this is an archive release, meaning everything from the late 1970s version is included here.
So a suede upper, contrasting lighter blue details for the stripes and heel, the gold city branding and a gum sole with a distinctive grip on the bottom. Nothing more, and all the better for it.
Some retailers are doing raffles for the shoe, which lands at the end of the week. Specifically on 31st March 2023. But as this is a full release (rather than being a one-store exclusive), I suspect the stock will be in reasonable supply. But don’t blame me if it runs out.
The retailer Yoox is already selling then, albeit at a slightly higher price. So you might want to wait until the actual launch when they will retail for £85 at the likes of End Clothing, Size and the Hip Store.
