It’s good to see these 1960s Adidas Japan trainers reissued in white and black. However, the design differs from past archive issues.

You might already own a pair, as they were reissued as an archive design back in 2020. I still have a pair unworn in a box – they look too good to wear if that makes sense. Maybe one day.

However, as you can see, that design differs slightly from the Adidas Japan design here. Yes, it’s still based on the original 1964 design, but key differences exist.

The new versions have more suede in the design, they look ever so slightly wider, and of course, they have those perforations on the leather upper. The branding to the side is different, too.

So, it’s still an Adidas Japan, but not the exact Adidas Japan from the 1960s archive. I still like them, though. They’re a solid old-school Adidas design with a bit of something about it. And they’re in black and white (or white and black), which is always popular.

The shoe has a leather upper with midfoot and toe box perforations, a tonal double-stitched suede T-toe, and contrasting accents. It also has a slimline herringbone rubber outsole, gold metallic branding, and Adidas branding on the heel and tongue.
