Once a staple of the streets, the Pringle 1980s archive lambswool blend v-neck jumper is now back on the shelves.
Pretty much standard amongst the football/casual scene and worn by many others too, this is one of the most famous looks of teen fashion of the later 1970s into the 1980s. Everyone seemed to have a Pringle jumper at one time.
But times changed, and Pringle isn’t as obvious on the high street as it once was. Yes, you can still buy Pringle Of Scotland knitwear, but it’s more likely to be seen on the golf course than the terraces these days, which is more likely to be awash with Stone Island. CP Company, and North Face.
If you want to go old school, you’ll have to dig deeper than your local JD Sports branch. Pringle does still have an archive range, but you’ll have to buy it directly or from more specialist clothing retailers, like Stuarts of London.
Both stock a selection of vintage designs, including this. Perhaps the most obvious, the most simple and, as a result, the one that probably works more than most in the 21st century.
Various original shades of this v-neck sweater are available, with the modern-day incarnation made of 80 per cent lambswool and 20 per cent nylon, with long sleeves, a saddle shoulder, a contrast Pringle lion and vintage typographic lettering on the chest.
Prices have gone up too, with the current version selling for £175 at the Pringle website right now. There’s an exclusive argyle version at Stuarts of London for £165 too.
Note that archive Pringle lambswool cardigans are also available, as pictured below.
