They appeared recently for the first time in a long while and sold out. But a fresh restock of the 1960s Adidas Japan trainers has landed.

And I would guess it’s a final restock. This was a limited edition release and limited to a few retailers in the original white and red colourway, so don’t expect more if you miss out now and don’t say you weren’t warned.

As you can see, there is also a reissue in a new brown variation, which I quite like. But the demand will almost certainly be for the original colour – links to both at the end of the page if you want to buy.

If you know your Adidas, you almost certainly know the back story of these. It’s a shoe produced way back in 1964, tying in with the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo. And a shoe that thankfully hasn’t changed much over the decades.

Its popularity is perhaps also down to so few reissues of this one. And when it does come back, it tends to dis`appear off the shelves pretty sharpish. This is one of the more popular archive styles from the German maker.

Last time out, Adidas went full-on premium and archive with a version made of a ‘buttery-soft’ kangaroo leather. That’s not the case this time, with a standard leather being used. The only difference in ‘look’ is the colour of the name branding to the side.

Elsewhere, this is a slim, low-profile shoe in white and red, with that branding on the side in gold foil, a leather pull tab on the heel, and an off-white, low sole unit that keeps everything neat and tidy.

Or go for the brown leather finish, matched up with white details, the gold branding and the same slim sole. Both appealing in their own way.

If you want a pair, you’ll need £100. Plenty of stock now, but perhaps not as the week progresses.
