It might cost a bit to ship it over, but this vintage-style black watch raincoat by J. Press is a good-looking thing.
I’ve had a look around, and I can’t find anything quite like it in the UK—and that’s despite this one being made in the UK for J. Press.
Of course, being in the J. Press range means it does have that wonderful classic/Ivy League vibe about it. Not unlike the 1960s raincoats by John Simons, which this raincoat certainly has a hint of.
Both share the look of a mid-20th-century classic raincoat. Only this one has that wonderful black watch tartan finish for the cotton outer. I love a black watch cloth (I’ve got a couple of shirts that use it) and it always looks stylish in an understated way.
Beyond that, this is a classic fir raincoat that runs to a three-quarter length with a fly front, a couple of angled pockets, a slightly rounded collar and a button cuff.
A nice thing, which retails for $495, which is around £390 at the current exchange rate. But if you aren’t in the US, beware the postage and tax.
