Originally produced back in 2020, the vintage-style zip-up polo shirts by Beams Plus are on the shelves in a fresh set of colours.
The three shades for this ‘season’ have just landed at Mr Porter, should you fancy wearing it out and about as the weather warms up. Actually, it has warmed up, so the perfect time to get one, especially with ‘out’ being more of an option this year compared to last year. probably confined to sitting in the garden wearing last year’s model.
Nothing much has changed in terms of the design. It is something of an ivy league-inspired design and very much rocking the early-to-mid-1960s vibe that’s typical of Beams Plus of late. As I said, the zipped polo is available in the three new colour options too, all with something of a retro vibe about them.
As for that design, this is a slim-fit polo shirt that is knitted from a mid-weight cotton and linen-blend, with alternating stripes and honeycomb panels. But that’s not the key selling point here.
Instead of going for buttons, Beams Plus has added in two-way zip fastening, which makes it more interesting and easier to layer if you want to go t-shirt underneath for example. It’s the kind of look that pretty much defines the term ‘smart casual’. Works either way.
All in all, a lovely looking thing in whatever colour you choose. A bit pricier than last year though, with Mr Porter asking £155 for one of these. Although to balance that out, I’ve always found Beams Plus gear to be extremely well made. Clothing that stands the test of time a lot more than some labels I could (but won’t) mention.
